Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Reports To: Risk and Compliance Officer
Duration: 6 – 12 Months

In August 1937, Mombasa-based Jubilee Insurance was founded as the first locally incorporated insurance provider. It now offers life, pension, general, and medical insurance, making it the biggest composite insurer in East Africa.

Serving more than 450,000 customers, Jubilee Insurance is the first ISO-certified insurance group listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), and Uganda Securities Exchange (USE). The company operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Mauritius.

Role Purpose

In order to guarantee adherence to relevant laws, rules, internal policies, and ethical standards, the Risk and Compliance Trainee will assist in the integration and application of risk strategies, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Duties:

  • As required by Tanzanian law, communicate with regulators (TIRA, TRA, and FIU) on compliance-related issues.
  • Keep tabs on legal and regulatory developments and counsel management on any required policy revisions.
  • Create and submit disclosures and reports to the appropriate authorities.
  • Perform risk assessments for compliance in every department.
  • Make sure due diligence is done and keep an eye on high-risk transactions.
  • Create, revise, and keep an eye on internal codes of conduct, manuals, and compliance regulations.
  • Make certain that every employee is trained and informed of the criteria for compliance.
  • Execute and oversee AML/CTF and data protection rules and processes.
  • Keep an eye on questionable transactions and perform routine KYC inspections.
  • Submit mandatory reports to the Personal Data Protection Commission and file Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
  • Create and carry out ethical and compliance training for staff members and agents.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Law, insurance, actuarial science, risk, compliance, or a similar discipline at the bachelor’s degree level.
  • One to two years of experience in compliance or risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance industry compliance standards and risk management laws.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated aptitude at collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Extremely well-organized, meticulous, and able to handle several responsibilities.
  • Proactive strategy for staying current with regulatory changes.
  • Experience building solid stakeholder relationships while working in regulated industries or intricate commercial settings.
