Two major government internship programmes have officially opened for applications in 2025, offering over 11,000 positions for recent graduates across Kenya. Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) – Cohort 8

The PSIP is a flagship initiative by the PSC aimed at bridging the gap between academic qualifications and workplace readiness. Now in its eighth intake, the programme places graduates in ministries, state departments, parastatals, public universities, and other government institutions for 12 months of structured mentorship and skills development.

Eligibility for PSIP

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline.
  • Recent graduate with no prior participation in PSIP.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.

Key Duties for PSIP Interns

Interns work under experienced supervisors, performing tasks aligned with their field of study and the institution’s mandate. So they are expected to document their learning, participate in training and mentorship programmes, assist in administrative and operational work, and adhere to PSC’s ethical and professional standards.

Internship – State Department for Housing and Urban Development (Cohort 1)

This newly launched internship programme is tailored for graduates interested in Kenya’s housing and urban planning sector. Interns will gain insight into the policies, projects, and operations that drive urban development, infrastructure improvement, and housing policy implementation across the country.

Eligibility for Housing and Urban Development Internship

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as urban planning, civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or related disciplines.
  • Recent graduate with strong computer and digital communication skills.

Key Duties for Housing and Urban Development Interns

Interns may support housing project planning, assist in drafting urban development policies, work on infrastructure data analysis, participate in public housing initiatives, and provide administrative support within the department.

Duration and Stipend

Both internship programmes run for 12 consecutive months and are non-renewable. Interns will receive a monthly stipend set by the government to help with commuting and daily expenses.

Certification

At the end of the internship, participants in both programmes will receive an Official Certificate of Completion from their respective institutions, which can significantly boost employability.

Applications for both programmes are made online through the Public Service Commission’s official recruitment portal. Candidates should upload their academic certificates, identification, and CV in clear and legible formats.
