Johannesburg – A Clapham High School teacher died while invigilating an exam on Tuesday, the Gauteng department of education said.
The department said the learners were not aware that the teacher had collapsed until later reported News24
It said that the loss was to both the Pretoria school and the department.
“The department is still conducting further investigation into the matter. The educator was a 60-year-old who served many years working for the department.”
The department said it would provide a psycho-social team to the school to provide trauma debriefing to learners and educators affected by the incident.
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school shortly after the incident and is said to have offered support to the family of the deceased.
The department has sent its condolences to the family.
